ART AND MEANING

Our Early Ancestors longed to understand the mysteries of the world into which they were born. They became artists. Their art helped them to develop and refine their observation skills. They became experts through observation. They watched the natural world for patterns, both recurring and behavioural. Their ability to learn to observe determined if they would die or survive.

They thrived.

Artists later diverged into other avenues of exploration. Some became the healers, medicine people, doctors. They assumed a role to look after the physical wellbeing of the population. Others became spiritual leaders. They interpreted the unseen abstract world. Some developed written language and became the writers and musicians. Others turned their observation skills to science.

All the while, there remained the original visual artists. They amongst themselves diverged into painters and sculptors with infinite styles and mediums and each continued to explore a different facet of their existence, be it social or political commentary or wildlife subjects.
